Once upon a time this little girl (pictured above) was all about her art. Art was the place where she could make anything possible. A place the characters of her imagination could come to life. It was her safe place to express her heart and find belonging.

I grew up in Edmonton Alberta, a working class city on the Canadian prairies. Summers' were short and the winters were long and bitter cold. It's funny how when you are a kid though, it doesn't occur to you to mind. I was raised by a single mother and was an only child up till I turned 13. Home life was unpredictable and I felt outcast at school. In a world that was unpredictable and lonely, art became my companion and a constant..
Growing up I experienced art as the vehicle with which I interacted with my world. It was something that brought me into circles of friends and was my therapy before I even knew what that was. I knew, from a very early age that I wanted to have art as a part of of my life, for the rest of my life. (When you are an artist, I don't think you even have a choice in this matter. Creativity has a way of following you.)
Out of high school I looked into design colleges, photography, even fashion design, and in the end settled on a technical college and studied traditional sign painting. In fact my schooling in traditional Sign Painting gave me an acute awareness of design hierarchy and best layout practices, that I still use today, In 2001, a couple years out of college, I founded my design company: Inspired Creativity.
At the time it was a small freelance business doing graphic design for local organizations and small businesses. Fast forward, I now call San Diego County my home and Inspired Creativity Inc. is the banner under which I offer graphic design, illustration, and branding services to my clients. It is also my creative home and my corner of this place we call the internet.
Over the years I have continued to pursue art and have come to recognize it not only as a form of expression and communication., but intrinsic to my purpose and a way that we can bring beauty into this crazy world. In our digital landscape where visual communication is more common than face-to-face interaction, how we use marks, colors, and shapes has become imperative and will continue to evolve.
I have found my niche working with nonprofit organizations — their branding, fundraising, and collateral. I still love lettering and typography and I love to paint -- usually with watercolor and ink -- or throw pots in my little home pottery studio. Creating with others in community is powerful and I have had the honor of curating these kinds of workshops for groups and businesses. You can check out community art for examples of this.
